Copper-Catalyzed Sulfonylation of Cyclobutanone Oxime Esters with Sulfonyl Hydrazides

چکیده

Abstract A copper-catalyzed radical cross-coupling of cyclobutanone oxime esters with sulfonyl hydrazides has been developed. The copper-based catalytic system proved crucial for cleavage the C−C bond oximes and selective C–S bond-formation involving persistent sulfonyl-metal intermediates. This protocol is distinguished by low-cost system, which does not require ligand, base, or toxic cyanide salt, use readily accessible starting materials, as well broad substrate scope, providing an efficient approach to various diversely substituted cyano-containing sulfones.

Iodine-catalyzed thiolation of electron-rich aromatics, including substituted anisole, thioanisole, phenol, toluene, and naphthalene, using sulfonyl hydrazides as sulfenylation reagents was carried out. Sulfonothioates, the products of decomposition of sulfonyl hydrazides in the presence of iodine, are proposed as the major sulfenylation species in this transformation.
